Updates & Events from the Hotel Association of North Texas

March 4, 2016

It is hard to believe that it has already been nearly two years since my first day as Executive Director of the Hotel Association of North Texas!

It has been such an honor and privilege to work with HANTX’s Executive Committee, Board Members, Hotel Members, Allied Members, sponsors, volunteers, educators and friends, while working hand in hand with our local CVBs, chambers of commerce, elected officials, and community leaders to help ensure that the hospitality industry in North Texas stays strong and influential.

The past few years have been an exhilarating time for HANTX!  While cherishing and focusing on the core values that have cemented our place as one of the preeminent hotel associations in the country for nearly 100 years, we have also made bold changes and secured strategic alliances that will ensure the success of this organization and the prosperity of our members well into the future.

We have added some dynamic new team members to the HANTX family in the past few months, and you will be meeting them soon if you have not already.  With our Hotel Membership DOUBLING in 2015, and our Allied Membership increasing all the time, we wanted to ensure that we have the manpower in our offices and in the field to make certain that we go above and beyond in meeting the needs of our membership!

At our upcoming Annual Meeting Luncheon, which will take place on Thursday, March 24th, Harold Rapoza (GM of the Hilton Anatole and HANTX’s current Board President), will be passing the baton to our incoming Board President, Roberto van Geenen (GM of The Ritz-Carlton).  It will be a bittersweet moment, as Harold has led us through the past two years, but Roberto is up to the task of continuing Harold’s hard work and dedication and has a love for this organization and a devotion to the hospitality industry in North Texas that is difficult to match.  We are in great hands!

Another highlight of the Annual Meeting will be the introduction of our new Board of Directors slate.  We have a dynamic group of men and women from just about every city and suburb in our trade area and from every type of hotel.  Our Nominating Committee worked hard to ensure that our 2016 Board of Directors is reflective of our membership in every way and we thank them for their efforts!

Granted, I have not been around for all 100 of HANTX’s years, but I cannot imagine there being a better time to be a part what we are doing than right now.  To those of you who are already members and partners, we thank you!  To those of you who are considering becoming members and partnering with us on this amazing ride:  What are you waiting for?  The hospitality industry is growing and HANTX is on the rise . . . come see what we’re all about!

Yours truly,

Cecile Newberry Fernandez

Executive Director

HANTX Welcomes Two New Staff Members

Kelly Scalise, Associate Executive Director

Kelly comes to HANTX with a strong background in event planning and fundraising.  Having worked in hotels all over the country, Kelly has a strong hospitality background and a keen understanding of the hotel business.  In fact, hospitality is a way of life in the Scalise family – her husband, David, is the Executive Chef at the Hilton Anatole.  Kelly’s focus at HANTX will be on event planning and membership building and retention.  She will be in the field quite often.  Expect to see her at your hotel in the near future!

              Fariha Hoque, Marketing Coordinator

Fariha is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and recently received her B. S. in Marketing.  She brings to HANTX a wealth of knowledge of social media and brand management, and is looking forward to not only assisting our association, but also our members as we continue to advance into the digital age.  Fariha will be your “go to” representative for online training, website assistance, and so much more.  Welcome, Fariha!
